Process-focused contamination control

Protect surface quality, process fluids and production uptime

Automotive production involves several very different contaminants: drawing oils and grease in pretreatment, particles and agglomerates in coatings, tramp oil in machining coolant, overspray in paint booths and oily water in wastewater treatment. A solution must be matched to the fluid, the contamination mechanism and the production stage.

Filtra International works with vehicle manufacturers, automotive suppliers and paint and coatings operations to select suitable filter media, oil-removal equipment and engineered components. We focus on the actual process requirement—not an unsuitable one-size-fits-all filter.

01 / Product quality

Oil & particle control

Investigate contamination that can affect pretreatment stability, coating finish and component cleanliness.

02 / Production efficiency

Keep process fluids in service

Consider oil skimming, well-sized filtration stages and serviceable elements to manage unwanted contamination.

03 / Technical fit

Choose the correct separation principle

Free-floating oil, dispersed oil droplets, stable emulsions and solids need different solutions.

Core application areas

Automotive manufacturing applications

Explore six high-value application areas where Filtra International can support real automotive filtration and separation requirements.

E-coat pretreatment & surface treatment

Before electrocoating (E-coat, ED coating or KTL), automotive bodies pass through cleaning, degreasing, rinsing and pretreatment stages. Drawing oils, lubricants and particles can affect these upstream circuits. Filtra supplies oil-absorbing filter bags, particle filtration and oil-removal solutions for suitable auxiliary and pretreatment systems.

Typical challenges: oil carryover, bath contamination, dirty rinse water, particulate loading.

02 Paints and coatings

Automotive paints, primers & coatings production

Contamination in paint and coating manufacture or transfer can affect surface finish and production consistency. Selected high-efficiency filter bags, polypropylene cartridges and depth media can support particulate control in compatible formulations and coating-related liquid circuits.

Typical challenges: agglomerates, particles, filtration consistency and oil-related coating concerns.

03 Parts cleaning

Industrial degreasing & parts washing

Automotive parts washers and degreasing tanks can accumulate lubricants, hydraulic oils and solids removed from manufactured components. Where oil separates from the cleaning liquid, direct tube skimmers or compact external oil-water separators such as CoolSkim can be considered alongside particulate filtration.

Typical challenges: floating oil, reduced cleaning performance, contaminated wash fluid and restricted tank access.

04 Metalworking

CNC machining coolant & tramp oil removal

Engine blocks, transmission parts and other automotive components are machined using coolants that can become contaminated by hydraulic and lubricating oils. Surface oil skimmers, coolant-side separation systems and filters for suspended solids can help maintain suitable process fluids.

Typical challenges: tramp oil on coolant sumps, swarf fines, clogged filters and fluid maintenance.

05 Spray booth filtration

Automotive paint booth air & overspray filtration

Paint booths require suitable airflow and capture of paint overspray. Filtra supplies Andreae cardboard filters, Paint Stop fiberglass mats and related filtration media for selected spray booth exhaust systems and paint walls.

Typical challenges: paint overspray, filter loading, downstream duct protection and booth airflow management.

Automated electronic component assembly equipment processing printed circuit boards
06 Precision components

Automotive electronics & display manufacturing

Filtra has supplied porous sintered metal for equipment used in automotive touchscreen production. Custom sintered sheets, discs and engineered metal components can support filtration, diffusion or controlled flow in suitable precision-manufacturing equipment.

Typical requirements: defined pore structure, material selection, custom geometry and repeatable fluid or gas distribution.

Important process distinction: oil skimming is intended for separable oil that can be recovered at a liquid surface. Direct use in a live E-coat paint bath, and treatment of stable emulsions, requires separate assessment of chemistry and operating conditions. The process determines the technology.

Real-world automotive experience

Experience in vehicle manufacturing, coating processes and precision components

Our automotive knowledge is based on actual supply experience, not only a catalogue of theoretically compatible products.

Filtra filter media has been used in production processes at Volkswagen, Stellantis and Mitsubishi. Our historical supply experience also includes Ford Genk and Audi Brussels. We have worked with the broader automotive coatings supply chain and supplied porous sintered metal for manufacturing equipment used in vehicle touchscreen production.

More recently, we supplied oil-absorption filter bags to an automotive manufacturing site investigating coating-related defects. As with any quality concern, the underlying cause and suitable treatment must be evaluated for the individual process.

Engineering-based selection

The right filtration solution starts with your process data

The most suitable equipment depends on whether your challenge is solids, separated oil, dispersed droplets or chemical compatibility.

We can review replacement filter bags, cartridges, oil skimmers, compact oil-water separators and custom porous metal components against the actual operating conditions. A clearly defined process objective is the best starting point for a technical recommendation and quotation.

Automotive filtration FAQ

Technical questions about automotive filtration

What filtration is used in automotive paint shops and E-coat pretreatment?

Filtration can be used in cleaning, degreasing, rinse water, surface pretreatment, compatible coating-related liquids and spray booth ventilation. Filter bags, cartridges and selected oil separation systems may be appropriate in pretreatment or supporting circuits. The actual E-coat paint bath requires separate assessment before equipment is selected.

Can oil absorption filter bags help with automotive paint defects?

Oil contamination can be one factor behind certain coating defects, but bubbles, craters, blisters and other defects may also have different causes. An oil-absorbing filter bag can be evaluated for a suitable liquid stream after investigating the process and contamination source. A specific defect reduction cannot be promised without testing or application evidence.

When should I choose an oil skimmer instead of an oil-absorbing filter bag?

A tube oil skimmer is suitable where recoverable free-floating oil accumulates on an accessible liquid surface. An oil-absorbing bag treats a liquid stream flowing through oil-adsorbing media. Stable emulsions and dissolved contamination may need other technologies.

Do you offer silicone-free filtration options for coating-related processes?

Yes, selected filter bags and filter cartridges are available with silicone-free material constructions. The suitability of the complete configuration, including seals and other wetted materials, should be checked for the application. Ask Filtra about the relevant product-specific material statement.

Can Filtra help with CNC coolant, degreasing baths and parts washers?

Yes. Depending on the liquid and contamination, suitable options may include tube oil skimmers, CoolSkim compact oil-water separators, filter bags, cartridges and self-cleaning filters.

Can you supply porous sintered metal for automotive electronic component production?

Filtra supplies porous sintered metal sheets, discs and custom components, and has previous experience with porous metal used in touchscreen manufacturing equipment. Selection depends on alloy, pore size, shape, flow and operating conditions.

How do I request an automotive filtration quotation?

Send your process description, liquid or gas medium, flow, temperature, pressure, contamination problem, current equipment specifications, expected quantity and delivery location using the quotation request page. Filtra International can then review relevant options with you.
