Product description

High flow pleated polypropylene filter cartridge for industrial liquid filtration

The polypropylene pleated high flow filter cartridge is designed for industrial liquid filtration applications where high flow rates, low pressure loss and broad chemical compatibility are required. The pleated polypropylene depth media provides a large effective filtration surface area, allowing efficient particle removal while extending service life.

This cartridge is commonly used in pre filtration and clarification stages where process stability, consistent filtration performance and reduced maintenance frequency are essential.

Filtration principle

The cartridge utilises pleated depth polypropylene filter media arranged to maximise available filtration surface area. Process liquid flows from the outside of the cartridge to the inside, with particles retained throughout the depth of the media.

This filtration principle provides:

  • high flow capacity with low differential pressure

  • consistent particle retention

  • uniform flow distribution across the pleat pack

  • efficient use of filtration surface area

The design supports continuous industrial filtration processes.

Cartridge design

The pleated polypropylene media is supported by a rigid internal core and outer support cage, ensuring mechanical stability under high flow conditions. All components are fully thermally bonded without the use of adhesives, reducing the risk of extractables and improving cartridge integrity.

Typical design characteristics include:

  • pleated depth polypropylene filter media

  • rigid pleat pack design for stable flow behaviour

  • fully thermal bonded construction

  • outside to inside flow configuration

Materials of construction

Standard construction materials include:

  • Filter media: Polypropylene

  • Inner core: Polypropylene

  • Outer cage: Polypropylene

  • End caps: Polypropylene

The all polypropylene construction ensures excellent chemical compatibility across a wide range of industrial liquids.

Available dimensions

Typical cartridge dimensions include:

  • Outer diameter: 160 mm

  • Core diameter: 75 mm

  • Available lengths: 20", 40", 60"

The large diameter configuration allows significantly higher flow rates compared to standard cartridge filters.

Filtration performance

Performance characteristics include:

  • Available micron ratings: 1 µm, 5 µm, 10 µm, 20 µm, 50 µm, 70 µm, 90 µm

  • Filtration efficiency: High efficiency depth filtration

  • Maximum flow rates:

    • up to 80 m³/hr for 40" cartridges (water, 1 cPs)

    • up to 120 m³/hr for 60" cartridges (water, 1 cPs)

Actual performance depends on micron rating, cartridge length and process conditions.

Operating conditions

Typical operating conditions include:

  • Maximum continuous operating temperature: up to 80 °C

  • Wide chemical compatibility suitable for acids, bases and industrial process liquids

  • Suitable for high flow liquid filtration

Exact limits depend on operating conditions and system configuration.

Sealing options

Available O-ring materials include:

  • EPDM

  • Buna-N

  • Silicone

  • Viton

  • FEP

This ensures compatibility with a wide range of process fluids and operating environments.

Compliance and quality

Polypropylene components are manufactured using materials suitable for industrial process applications. Fully thermal bonded construction improves mechanical strength and reduces contamination risks.

Polypropylene media is suitable for applications where broad chemical resistance and clean filtration performance are required.

Key benefits

  • High flow capacity with low pressure loss

  • Broad chemical compatibility

  • Large filtration surface area

  • Long service life and reduced cartridge change-outs

  • Fully polypropylene, adhesive free construction

  • Suitable for demanding industrial filtration processes

Typical applications

Polypropylene pleated high flow filter cartridges are commonly used in:

  • water treatment and pre reverse osmosis filtration

  • chemical processing

  • industrial cooling water filtration

  • process water clarification

  • oil and gas utilities

  • general industrial liquid filtration

Configuration and quotation

Polypropylene pleated high flow filter cartridges are supplied on a quotation basis. Configuration parameters include:

  • cartridge length

  • micron rating

This ensures the cartridge is correctly matched to the filtration system and process requirements.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
