Product description

Porous metal discs for precision filtration and flow control

Porous metal discs are flat, sintered metal filter elements engineered for controlled gas and liquid flow in demanding industrial, analytical and OEM applications. Manufactured through powder metallurgy processes, these discs provide a uniform network of interconnected pores for consistent and repeatable filtration performance.

Porous metal discs can be produced from a wide range of corrosion-resistant and high-performance alloys including 316L stainless steel, 904L stainless steel, Nickel 200, Monel 400, Inconel 600, Hastelloy C-276, Hastelloy C-22 and Hastelloy X. This material flexibility allows optimisation for aggressive chemicals, high temperatures and high-pressure environments.

Filtration principle

Porous metal discs operate using depth filtration through a rigid, interconnected pore structure. Process media flows through the disc thickness while particles larger than the pore size are retained within the structure.

This filtration design provides:

  • uniform particle retention across the full disc surface

  • stable permeability and controlled flow resistance

  • low pressure drop at defined micron ratings

  • mechanical integrity under differential pressure

  • repeatable performance over long service life

Material options

Porous metal discs are available in the following materials to meet chemical compatibility and performance requirements:

  • 316L Stainless Steel – general industrial filtration

  • 904L Stainless Steel – enhanced resistance to chlorides

  • Nickel 200 – suitable for caustic and hydrogen applications

  • Monel 400 – excellent in marine and salt-rich environments

  • Inconel 600 – high temperature oxidation resistance

  • Hastelloy C-276 – superior resistance to aggressive chemicals

  • Hastelloy C-22 – outstanding pitting and crevice corrosion resistance

  • Hastelloy X – strong high-temperature structural alloy

Material selection depends on operating temperature, pressure, and process fluid chemistry.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
