Product description

pH correction cartridge for neutralising acidic water

The pH Correction Filter Cartridge is designed to raise the pH of acidic water and stabilise water chemistry in drinking water and technical water applications. By gradually dissolving neutralising media, the cartridge helps reduce the corrosive effects of acidic water and limits the leaching of metals such as copper and lead from pipework.

This cartridge is commonly used for post reverse osmosis treatment, private water supplies and general remineralisation applications where controlled pH adjustment is required.

Filtration principle

The pH correction cartridge works through controlled dissolution of alkaline mineral media when acidic water passes through the cartridge. As the media dissolves, it increases alkalinity and raises the pH of the treated water towards a neutral range.

This process provides:

  • gradual and controlled pH increase

  • reduced water corrosivity

  • improved water stability

  • protection of downstream plumbing systems

The cartridge operates without chemical dosing and requires no external control systems.

Filter media

The pH correction cartridge is filled with a blended mineral media composed of:

  • calcium carbonate (CaCO₃)

  • magnesium carbonate (MgCO₃)

This combination allows effective pH correction while also contributing to remineralisation of treated water.

Performance characteristics

Typical performance characteristics include:

  • effective neutralisation of acidic feed water

  • stable pH correction over the cartridge service life

  • suitability for low to moderate acidity levels

Actual capacity depends on feed water pH, free carbon dioxide concentration and cartridge size.

Operating conditions

Typical operating parameters include:

  • operating temperature range from 4 to 38 °C

  • maximum operating pressure of 6.9 bar

  • maximum pressure differential of 1.0 bar at 21 °C

  • suitable feed water pH range from 5 to 6.5

The cartridge is designed for cold water use only.

Cartridge configurations

pH correction cartridges are available in the following configurations:

  • cartridge lengths: 10 inch and 20 inch

  • diameter: large diameter (Big Blue) only

The large diameter design provides extended contact time and higher media volume for effective pH correction.

Typical applications

pH correction cartridges are commonly used in:

  • post reverse osmosis permeate treatment

  • private and borehole water supplies

  • drinking water treatment systems

  • remineralisation after demineralisation

  • corrosion control in plumbing systems

They are often installed as part of a multi stage water treatment system.

Key benefits

  • Raises pH of acidic water

  • Reduces corrosive water behaviour

  • Helps protect pipework and fittings

  • Supports remineralisation

  • No chemical dosing required

  • Simple cartridge replacement

  • Large diameter design for extended service life

Installation considerations

For best performance, the pH correction cartridge should be installed:

  • downstream of sediment and carbon filtration

  • after reverse osmosis where remineralisation is required

  • in a housing designed for large diameter cartridges

Correct flow rate selection ensures sufficient contact time for effective pH correction.

Configuration and quotation

pH correction filter cartridges are supplied based on cartridge length and system requirements. Selection depends on:

  • feed water pH

  • free carbon dioxide concentration

  • desired pH correction level

  • flow rate

Filtra International provides technical support to ensure correct cartridge selection and system configuration.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
