Product description

The ORTS® Oil Removal & Transfer System is a complete industrial oil recovery system designed to remove floating oil from water, store the recovered oil and transfer it to a remote collection point. The system is delivered as a skid-mounted unit that integrates the oil skimmer, oil storage tank, transfer pump and control panel into one compact package. This configuration allows rapid installation and reliable unattended oil removal.

Technical overview

The ORTS® system combines proven tube oil skimmer technology with an integrated oil storage and transfer solution. A tube oil skimmer removes floating oil from the liquid surface and directs the recovered oil into a storage tank equipped with a decanter to separate residual water. A transfer pump then moves the recovered oil to a remote tank, drum or disposal system. The complete system is delivered pre-assembled and pre-wired to simplify installation and commissioning. The modular configuration allows customization for different tank sizes, recovery rates and installation environments.

Oil removal capacity

The ORTS® system is designed for continuous industrial oil recovery and is available in multiple configurations depending on the skimmer model and system design.

  • Oil removal capacity: 4 – 200 gallons per hour
  • Equivalent flow rate: 15 – 757 litres per hour

Actual oil recovery depends on the selected skimmer model, oil type, oil thickness and system configuration.

Operating principle

The oil skimmer continuously removes floating oil from the liquid surface using a free-floating collector tube. Oil adheres to the tube surface and is transported into the skimmer housing where scraper blades remove the oil and direct it into a collection tank. Inside the ORTS® system the recovered liquid enters a decanter tank where residual water separates from the oil. The recovered oil is then transferred via pump to a remote collection point such as a drum, storage tank or disposal container.

Material options

Typical construction materials include:
  • Carbon steel skid frame
  • Stainless steel or coated storage tank
  • Industrial gear motor oil skimmer
  • Ceramic wear components in the skimmer mechanism
  • Chemically resistant hoses and piping
Material selection depends on fluid chemistry, temperature and environmental conditions.

Available micron ratings

Oil skimming systems do not operate using filtration micron ratings. Instead, separation occurs through selective adhesion of oil to the collector tube surface combined with gravity separation in the decanter tank.

Design and construction

The ORTS® system integrates several components into a single skid-mounted system:
System Component Description
Oil Skimmer Tube oil skimmer removes floating oil from the liquid surface
Collection Tank Integrated tank stores recovered oil
Decanter Separates residual water from recovered oil
Transfer Pump Pumps recovered oil to remote storage
Controller Controls skimmer operation and pump function
Skid Frame Provides compact installation platform
The skid-mounted design allows the complete system to be installed with minimal site preparation.

Typical applications

ORTS® oil recovery systems are commonly used in:
  • Industrial wastewater treatment systems
  • Manufacturing coolant systems
  • Steel mills and heavy industry
  • Rail yards
  • Oil contaminated ponds and pits
  • Large process tanks

Key benefits

  • Complete oil removal system on a single skid
  • Integrated storage and transfer capability
  • Continuous unattended operation
  • Modular system configuration
  • Minimal installation requirements
  • Suitable for harsh industrial environments

Configuration and quotation

To configure the correct ORTS® system the following information should be provided:
  • Tank or basin dimensions
  • Estimated oil layer thickness
  • Required oil recovery rate
  • Distance to storage or disposal location
  • Operating temperature
  • Power supply requirements
These parameters determine the appropriate skimmer model, tank size and pump capacity.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
