MODEL 3F360™

360° floating surface-oil recovery

The Oil Skimmers Model 3F360™ is a floating weir oil skimmer designed for rapid recovery of free-floating oil, grease and other recoverable surface contaminants.

Three floats support a central adjustable intake weir. Because the intake is positioned in the centre of the floating assembly, contaminated surface liquid can approach the skimmer from all directions.

The 3F360 is particularly relevant where selective adhesion skimming with a collector tube is not practical, where a much higher recovery rate is required, or where rapid first-stage surface removal is needed before further oil-water separation or wastewater treatment.

Intake 360° central weir
Adjustment Manual weir setting
Construction 304 or 316 stainless steel
Available sizes Five 3F360 models
Published recovery range 27–320 US gal/min (102–1,211 L/min)
Debris protection Mesh screen around intake
OPERATING PRINCIPLE

How the Model 3F360 floating weir skimmer works

Unlike a tube skimmer that collects oil by adhesion, the 3F360 removes the upper contaminated liquid layer directly across an adjustable floating weir.

1

Float at the oil-water interface

Three floats keep the skimmer positioned at the liquid surface while allowing it to follow changes in liquid level.

2

Adjust the surface cut

The central weir can be adjusted to take a deeper or shallower cut of the floating surface layer according to the application.

3

Transfer recovered liquid

Recovered oily liquid is transferred through the connected hose and pump arrangement to downstream collection, separation or treatment equipment.

MODEL RANGE

3F360 models and published recovery rates

Five sizes are available. The values below are the manufacturer-published recovery rates for each model.

Model Published recovery rate Metric equivalent
3F360-1 27 US gal/min 102 L/min
3F360-1.5 35 US gal/min 132 L/min
3F360-2 55 US gal/min 208 L/min
3F360-3 150 US gal/min 568 L/min
3F360-4 320 US gal/min 1,211 L/min
Important: these figures describe the published recovery rate through the skimmer. A floating weir removes the upper liquid layer, so the recovered stream can contain both oil and water. Oil concentration depends on the floating layer, weir setting, pump arrangement and operating conditions.
APPLICATIONS

Where the Model 3F360 is used

The 3F360 is intended for applications where a freely floating contaminant must be removed rapidly from the liquid surface.

Duckweed removal Surface removal where adhesion-based collection is unsuitable.
APPLICATION FIT

When to consider a Model 3F360

Strong 3F360 applications

  • Free-floating oil or surface contaminants
  • High required surface recovery rate
  • Spill response or sudden increases in oil volume
  • Changing liquid levels
  • Large tanks, pits, ponds or lagoons
  • First-stage removal before downstream treatment
  • Contaminants unsuitable for adhesion-based collection

Review another solution when

  • The objective is highly selective low-water oil pickup
  • The oil can be efficiently removed with a Brill® tube skimmer
  • A self-adjusting flow-control weir is preferred
  • The skimmer must be guided inside an enclosed storage tank
  • The full oily-water stream requires dedicated separation

Size the complete skimming system — not only the floating head

Selecting the correct Model 3F360 also requires the pump, hose arrangement and downstream destination to be considered as part of the complete surface-oil recovery system.

Useful application information includes:

  • Oil or floating contaminant type
  • Approximate surface-layer thickness
  • Tank, pit, pond or lagoon dimensions
  • Required recovery rate
  • Liquid temperature
  • Floating debris or solids
  • Transfer distance
  • Required hose length
  • Downstream collection or separation equipment
  • Available electrical supply if a pump package is required

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Model 3F360 floating weir oil skimmer

Common questions about 360-degree floating weir surface recovery and Model 3F360 system selection.

What is the Model 3F360?
The Model 3F360™ is a floating weir oil skimmer with three floats and a central adjustable intake capable of recovering the upper contaminated liquid layer from all directions around the skimmer.
Why does the 3F360 use a 360-degree intake?
The central intake allows floating oil or other surface contaminants to approach the weir from any direction rather than requiring the contaminant to reach one fixed side of the skimmer.
Is the 3F360 weir adjustable?
Yes. The central weir can be adjusted to take a deeper or shallower cut of the surface layer according to oil-layer thickness and operating conditions.
What are the recovery rates of the 3F360 models?
Manufacturer-published recovery rates range from 27 US gal/min (102 L/min) for the 3F360-1 to 320 US gal/min (1,211 L/min) for the 3F360-4. Intermediate sizes are also available.
Does the published recovery rate mean pure oil only?
Not necessarily. A floating weir removes the upper liquid layer, so the recovered stream can contain both oil and water. Oil concentration depends on oil-layer thickness, weir adjustment, pumping conditions and the application.
Can the 3F360 follow changing liquid levels?
Yes. The skimmer floats on the liquid surface and therefore follows changes in liquid level within the operating limits of the hose and installation arrangement.
Does the 3F360 have debris protection?
Yes. A mesh screen surrounds the central weir to help reduce debris intake and lower the risk of clogging at the intake.
What materials are available?
The 3F Series is available in 304 or 316 stainless steel. Final material selection should consider the process liquid, chemistry and operating environment.
When should I choose a 3F360 instead of a tube oil skimmer?
A floating weir should be considered where much higher surface recovery rates are required, where the contaminant does not adhere effectively to a collector tube, or where location, space or application conditions make tube skimming unsuitable.
What is the difference between 3F360 and 3FFC?
The 3F360 uses a manually adjustable central weir. The Model 3FFC uses a flow-control design with a continuously self-adjusting weir.
What is the difference between 3F360 and 3F360-GCS?
The 3F360-GCS uses the 3F360 floating-weir platform together with a guidance control system designed for controlled vertical travel inside enclosed and above-ground storage tanks.
Does the 3F360 require a pump?
The complete system uses a pump and hose arrangement to transfer recovered surface liquid away from the floating skimmer. Pump selection depends on the selected 3F360 size, required flow, transfer distance and site conditions.
Can the 3F360 remove duckweed?
The 3F Series can also be applied to suitable floating material such as duckweed where adhesion-based collection is not appropriate.
What information is needed for 3F360 selection?
Useful information includes contaminant type, approximate surface-layer thickness, tank or pond dimensions, required recovery rate, liquid temperature, debris conditions, transfer distance, hose requirements and downstream collection or treatment arrangement.
