Product description

High capacity carbon block filter cartridge combining activated carbon and depth filtration

The high capacity carbon block filter cartridge is designed to deliver premium chlorine, taste and odour reduction while maintaining exceptionally low pressure drop. Based on advanced Fibredyne carbon technology, this cartridge combines activated carbon adsorption with depth filtration in a single filtration stage.

By embedding powdered activated carbon within a polyethylene fibre matrix, the cartridge achieves high sediment reduction, extended service life and consistent filtration performance across a wide range of applications.

Filtration principle

The cartridge utilises Fibredyne technology, where powdered activated carbon is uniformly distributed throughout a depth filtration matrix. Process liquid flows through the full depth of the cartridge, allowing simultaneous adsorption of dissolved contaminants and mechanical removal of sediment.

This filtration principle provides:

  • effective chlorine, taste and odour reduction

  • high sediment removal efficiency

  • low pressure drop compared to traditional carbon blocks

  • extended service life due to depth loading

  • stable performance throughout the cartridge lifetime

The one-stage filtration approach simplifies system design and operation.

Media technology and uniqueness

Fibredyne carbon technology combines the benefits of activated carbon filtration with depth filtration performance. Powdered activated carbon is embedded within a polyethylene matrix, ensuring uniform contaminant contact and preventing channeling.

Key media characteristics include:

  • powdered activated carbon embedded in fibre matrix

  • high sediment holding capacity

  • reduced pressure drop compared to conventional carbon blocks

  • consistent adsorption efficiency over time

This makes the cartridge suitable for applications requiring both particulate and chemical contaminant removal.

Design and construction

The cartridge is designed in a standard cylindrical format compatible with common cartridge housings. The structure ensures mechanical stability while allowing high flow rates and efficient contaminant removal.

Typical design features include:

  • depth filtration carbon media structure

  • integrated sediment and carbon filtration

  • polyethylene support matrix

  • standard cartridge format for easy replacement

Materials of construction

Standard construction materials include:

  • Filter media: Powdered activated coconut carbon

  • Matrix material: Polyethylene

  • End caps: Polypropylene

  • Netting material: Polyethylene

  • Gasket material: Santoprene

Materials are selected to ensure durability, chemical compatibility and reliable long-term performance.

Operating conditions

Typical operating conditions include:

  • Maximum operating temperature: 82 °C

  • Maximum differential pressure: 1.5 bar

  • Suitable for continuous liquid filtration

Actual operating limits depend on cartridge configuration and system conditions.

Performance characteristics

Typical performance benefits include:

  • high chlorine reduction capacity

  • effective taste and odour removal

  • high sediment reduction

  • significantly reduced pressure drop compared to traditional carbon blocks

Performance values depend on cartridge length, flow rate and water quality.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
