Product description
Heavy metal reduction cartridge for drinking water and technical water applications
The Heavy Metal Removal Resin Filter Cartridge is designed to reduce dissolved heavy metals from water supplies, including metals such as zinc, copper and mercury. These cartridges are used where elevated metal concentrations may affect water quality, system performance or regulatory compliance.
In addition to selective heavy metal reduction, the cartridge provides mild water softening properties without the sodium dosing typically associated with conventional softening cartridges.
Filtration principle
The heavy metal removal cartridge operates using a weak acid cation exchange resin in hydrogen form. As water flows through the cartridge, heavy metal ions are selectively exchanged and retained within the resin structure.
This process provides:
-
effective removal of dissolved heavy metals
-
selective ion exchange performance
-
stable operation across varying water chemistries
-
reduction of alkaline earth and toxic metals
The cartridge continues to operate until the resin exchange capacity is exhausted.
Filter media
The cartridge is filled with a weak acid cation macroporous resin in hydrogen form.
Key characteristics of the media include:
-
high selectivity for heavy metal ions
-
suitability for potable water applications
-
stable performance under controlled conditions
-
capability to reduce both toxic and alkaline earth metals
The resin media is designed for continuous operation within defined operating limits.
Performance characteristics
Typical performance characteristics include:
-
efficient reduction of heavy metals at inlet concentrations within defined limits
-
predictable treated water volumes based on metal concentration and cartridge size
-
stable pressure drop during operation
Actual cartridge capacity depends on inlet metal concentration, water chemistry and flow rate.
Operating conditions
Typical operating parameters include:
-
operating temperature range from 4 to 45 °C
-
maximum operating pressure of 5.5 bar
-
maximum pressure differential of 1.0 bar
-
suitable for cold water applications
The cartridge is intended for dissolved heavy metals in potable and technical water supplies.
Cartridge configurations
Heavy metal removal cartridges are available in the following configurations:
-
cartridge lengths: 10 inch and 20 inch
-
diameter options: standard diameter and large diameter (Big Blue)
Large diameter cartridges provide increased resin volume and extended service life.
Typical applications
Heavy metal removal resin cartridges are commonly used in:
-
drinking water treatment
-
private and borehole water supplies
-
pharmaceutical make up water
-
aquatics and laboratory systems
-
technical water pre treatment
-
protection of downstream filtration systems
They are especially suitable where selective heavy metal reduction is required without sodium addition.
Key benefits
-
Selective reduction of heavy metals
-
No sodium dosing
-
Mild softening effect
-
Suitable for drinking water applications
-
Stable and predictable performance
-
Available in multiple cartridge sizes
-
Easy cartridge replacement
Installation considerations
For optimal performance, heavy metal removal cartridges should be installed:
-
after sediment pre filtration
-
upstream of carbon or polishing filtration
-
in housings compatible with the selected cartridge diameter
Flow rates should be controlled to ensure sufficient contact time with the resin.
Configuration and quotation
Heavy metal removal resin cartridges are supplied based on cartridge length and diameter. Selection depends on:
-
heavy metal concentration in feed water
-
desired treated water volume
-
system flow rate
-
housing compatibility
Filtra International provides technical support to ensure correct cartridge selection and system integration.
