Product description

Hydrophobic PVDF membrane filter cartridge for high-performance liquid and solvent filtration

The hydrophobic PVDF membrane filter cartridge is designed for demanding liquid and solvent filtration applications where high chemical resistance, low extractables and stable filtration performance are required. Manufactured using a hydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane, this pleated cartridge delivers high flow rates combined with low pressure drop.

The hydrophobic nature of the PVDF membrane provides excellent compatibility with aggressive liquids and solvents while maintaining reliable particle retention and membrane integrity throughout the service life.

Filtration principle

The cartridge operates using hydrophobic membrane filtration with a controlled microporous structure.

  • Process liquid flows from the outside to the inside of the cartridge

  • Particles and contaminants larger than the membrane pore size are retained on the membrane surface

  • Clean liquid passes through the membrane to the outlet

This filtration principle provides:

  • absolute rated particle retention

  • high flow rates at low differential pressure

  • predictable and repeatable filtration performance

  • low membrane extractables

Hydrophobic PVDF membrane performance

The hydrophobic PVDF membrane is selected for its balance of chemical resistance, mechanical strength and purity.

Key membrane characteristics include:

  • broad chemical compatibility across acids, bases and many solvents

  • low protein binding and low extractables

  • high porosity for increased flow capacity

  • robust membrane structure for long service life

  • stable performance under demanding process conditions

This makes the cartridge suitable for challenging liquid filtration applications where polymer compatibility is critical.

Design and construction

The cartridge features a pleated membrane design to maximise effective filtration area and throughput.

Typical design features include:

  • hydrophobic PVDF membrane media

  • pleated construction for increased surface area

  • polypropylene drainage and support layers

  • rigid polypropylene inner core

  • polypropylene outer support cage

  • thermally bonded construction without adhesives or binders

This construction ensures mechanical stability and consistent long-term performance.

Operating conditions

Typical operating conditions include:

  • absolute micron ratings suitable for fine liquid filtration

  • continuous operating temperatures compatible with PVDF membrane

  • high allowable differential pressure depending on temperature

  • stable operation at high flow rates

Exact pressure and temperature limits depend on cartridge length, pore size and process conditions.

Compliance and quality

Hydrophobic PVDF membrane filter cartridges are manufactured under controlled production conditions with full traceability. Each cartridge is integrity tested to ensure consistent filtration performance and reliability in critical filtration applications.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
