Product description

Sintered porous metal filter cartridges for permanent industrial filtration

Porous metal filter cartridges are precision-engineered sintered filter elements designed for long-term industrial gas and liquid filtration. Manufactured from powder metal and formed into rigid cylindrical elements, these cartridges provide uniform pore structure, high mechanical strength and reliable contaminant retention.

These cartridges are designed for permanent filtration installations and can be cleaned in situ using blowback (gas systems) or backwash/backflush systems (liquid systems), significantly extending service life compared to disposable filters.

Construction and design

Porous metal filter cartridges are available in rolled and welded (Series 2200) or seamless (Series 2300) constructions. Standard diameters range from small seamless tube elements to larger rolled and welded configurations.

Cartridges are available in double open-end gasket sealed configurations and can be supplied with welded hardware, threaded fittings or flange mounting options.

  • Standard nominal lengths: 10", 20", 30"

  • Custom lengths up to 70" available

  • Standard diameter configurations from 3/8" to 4"

  • Multiple connection and mounting styles available

Material options

Porous metal filter cartridges can be manufactured from a wide range of corrosion-resistant and high-performance alloys:

  • 316L Stainless Steel – general industrial applications

  • 904L Stainless Steel – enhanced chloride resistance

  • Nickel 200 – hydrogen and caustic service

  • Monel 400 – marine and brine environments

  • Inconel 600 – high temperature oxidation resistance

  • Hastelloy C-276 – aggressive chemical resistance

  • Hastelloy C-22 – superior pitting and crevice resistance

  • Hastelloy X – high temperature structural stability

Material selection depends on process chemistry, temperature and operating pressure.

Available micron ratings

Porous metal cartridges are available in media grades suitable for liquid/solid and gas/solid separation:

  • 0.2 micron

  • 0.5 micron

  • 1 micron

  • 2 micron

  • 5 micron

  • 10 micron

  • 20 micron

  • 40 micron

  • 60 micron

  • 100 micron

Pressure performance

Standard differential pressure ratings:

  • Outside-in: up to 50 psi (standard construction)

  • Inside-out: up to 40 psi

Spring-reinforced versions are available for higher pressure applications:

  • Outside-in: up to 250 psi (media grades 0.2–40)

  • Outside-in: up to 150 psi (media grade 100)

Custom high differential pressure designs exceeding 3000 psi are available upon request.

High temperature capability

Maximum operating temperatures depend on material and atmosphere. For example:

  • 316L stainless steel: up to 750°F (oxidizing), 1000°F (neutral/reducing)

  • Inconel 600: up to 1100°F (oxidizing), 1500°F (neutral/reducing)

  • Hastelloy X: up to 1450°F (oxidizing), 1700°F (neutral/reducing)

Typical applications

  • Gas/solids separation

  • Liquid/solids filtration

  • Catalyst retention and recovery

  • High-temperature process gas filtration

  • Chemical and petrochemical processing

  • Food and beverage clarification

  • Power generation condensate polishing

  • Pollution control and stack gas sampling

Cleaning and reuse

Porous metal cartridges are fully cleanable using backwash, blowback, ultrasonic cleaning, chemical cleaning or controlled thermal cleaning. Properly maintained cartridges can remain in service for years, reducing lifecycle costs compared to disposable elements.

Configuration and quotation

Filter cartridges are supplied based on specific application requirements. Selection parameters include:

  • material selection

  • micron rating

  • nominal length

  • element diameter

  • connection type

  • operating pressure and temperature

  • process fluid or gas chemistry

Technical consultation is available to ensure correct element selection.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
