Product description

Sintered porous metal filter cartridge for extreme industrial filtration

Porous Metal Filter Cartridges are high performance filtration elements manufactured from pure sintered metal powder. The sintering process creates a rigid, self supporting structure with a controlled network of interconnected pores, delivering reliable filtration performance under extreme operating conditions.

These cartridges are designed for applications where polymer or fibre based filter media are not suitable, such as high temperature processes, aggressive chemical environments or systems requiring repeated cleaning and reuse. Their robust construction ensures long service life, stable filtration efficiency and excellent mechanical strength.

Filtration principle

Porous metal filter cartridges operate using depth filtration through a three dimensional porous metal structure. During sintering, metal powder particles are bonded together without binders or additives, forming a highly permeable matrix with defined pore size distribution.

Process fluid flows through the porous structure while particles larger than the pore openings are retained within the metal matrix.

This filtration method provides:

  • consistent and predictable particle retention

  • high permeability with low pressure drop

  • stable performance under temperature and pressure variation

  • suitability for repeated cleaning and regeneration

Construction and materials

Porous Metal Filter Cartridges are manufactured from pure sintered metal powder using a pressure free sintering process. This results in a uniform pore structure and high mechanical integrity throughout the filter element.

Materials of construction

Standard material:

  • 316L stainless steel

    • Excellent corrosion resistance

    • High temperature stability

    • Suitable for most industrial liquid and gas filtration duties

High alloy materials available on request:

  • Hastelloy C22

  • Hastelloy C276

  • Titanium

Material selection is based on process chemistry, operating temperature, pressure conditions and cleaning requirements.

Performance characteristics

Typical performance characteristics include:

  • rigid, self supporting filter structure

  • high mechanical strength and dimensional stability

  • stable pore structure for consistent filtration efficiency

  • excellent resistance to thermal cycling

  • cleanable and reusable design

  • long operational lifetime

Porous metal cartridges maintain filtration performance even in demanding process environments.

Filtration ratings

Porous metal filter cartridges are available in a range of pore sizes suitable for:

  • coarse particulate removal

  • general industrial filtration

  • fine particle control

Exact filtration ratings are selected based on application requirements and operating conditions.

Dimensions and configurations

Porous Metal Filter Cartridges can be supplied in:

  • standard and custom cartridge lengths

  • various diameters to suit industrial housings

  • multiple end cap and sealing configurations

  • designs compatible with common cartridge housings

Custom configurations are available for retrofit and OEM applications.

Operating limits

Typical operating capabilities include:

  • high temperature resistance well beyond polymer filter media

  • high pressure and differential pressure tolerance

  • suitability for aggressive chemical environments

Exact operating limits depend on material selection, pore size and cartridge geometry.

Typical applications

Porous Metal Filter Cartridges are commonly used in:

  • chemical and petrochemical processing

  • pharmaceutical production

  • food and beverage utilities

  • gas filtration and purification

  • steam and condensate filtration

  • high temperature liquid processes

  • solvent and aggressive chemical filtration

They are particularly suitable where cleanable, reusable filtration is required.

Key benefits

  • pure sintered metal construction without binders

  • high temperature and chemical resistance

  • stable and defined pore structure

  • reusable and cleanable design

  • long service life and reduced waste

  • suitable for both liquid and gas filtration

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
