Product description

Plastic cartridge filter housings for industrial and utility filtration

Plastic cartridge filter housings are designed for liquid filtration applications where corrosion resistance, chemical compatibility and ease of maintenance are required. These housings are used to hold industry standard filter cartridges and guide process liquid through the selected filter media in a controlled and reliable way.

Plastic housings are typically selected as a cost effective and practical solution for a wide range of industrial and utility filtration tasks. Different housing materials and designs are available to match operating conditions such as temperature, chemical exposure and purity requirements.

Filtration principle

The plastic cartridge filter housings are designed for top loaded cartridge filtration. Liquid enters the housing, flows through the installed filter cartridge and exits through the outlet connection. The housing ensures correct positioning of the cartridge and reliable sealing to prevent bypass.

This filtration concept allows:

  • consistent particle removal

  • predictable pressure drop behavior

  • simple and fast cartridge replacement

Housing types and configurations

1. Polypropylene cartridge filter housing

The polypropylene housing is manufactured from virgin polypropylene and is suitable for general industrial liquid filtration. It is designed for use with Double Open End cartridges and is available in standard sizes as well as Big Blue versions for higher flow rates and longer service life.

Typical characteristics:

  • corrosion resistant polypropylene construction

  • compatible with DOE cartridges

  • suitable for a wide range of industrial liquids

  • available in standard and Big Blue formats

2. Transparent cartridge filter housing

The transparent housing features a clear bowl that allows visual inspection of the cartridge and fluid condition during operation. This housing is also designed for Double Open End cartridges and is available in standard and Big Blue configurations.

Typical characteristics:

  • visual control of cartridge condition

  • easier maintenance planning

  • compatible with DOE cartridges

  • corrosion resistant construction

3. High temperature plastic filter housing

The high temperature housing is designed for applications where operating temperatures exceed the limits of standard polypropylene housings. It is manufactured from reinforced plastic materials that provide improved thermal stability while maintaining chemical resistance.

Typical characteristics:

  • suitable for elevated operating temperatures

  • reinforced plastic construction

  • compatible with DOE cartridges

  • stable performance under demanding conditions

4. Pure water cartridge filter housing

The pure water housing is intended for applications requiring high purity filtration. It is optimized for use with Code 3 filter cartridges and is designed to minimize extractables and contamination risks in sensitive water systems.

Typical characteristics:

  • suitable for pure and potable water filtration

  • optimized for Code 3 cartridges

  • materials selected for high purity applications

  • predictable filtration performance

Design and construction

All plastic cartridge filter housings share common design features such as:

  • reliable sealing systems to prevent bypass

  • threaded or clamped closure systems

  • mounting options for stable installation

  • configurations for common cartridge lengths and diameters

The housings are designed for durability, ease of use and straightforward maintenance.

Operating conditions

Typical operating conditions for plastic cartridge filter housings include:

  • pressure ratings suitable for general industrial liquid filtration

  • temperature limits depending on housing material

  • compatibility with a wide range of liquids

Exact limits depend on the selected housing type, sealing materials and installation conditions and are defined during the configuration phase.

Key benefits

  • corrosion free and lightweight construction

  • multiple housing types for different process conditions

  • easy cartridge replacement

  • compatibility with standard cartridges

  • Big Blue options for higher flow and capacity

  • pure water version for high purity applications

Typical applications

Plastic cartridge filter housings are commonly used in:

  • industrial liquid filtration

  • water and wastewater treatment

  • chemical processing

  • surface treatment and plating

  • membrane pre filtration

  • potable and pure water systems

Configuration and quotation

Plastic cartridge filter housings are supplied on a quotation basis. During configuration, the following parameters can be defined:

  • housing type

  • cartridge length and style

  • connection type and size

  • sealing material

This ensures the housing is matched to the intended filtration duty and process conditions.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
