Product description

The ESS® Enclosed Skimming System is a fully enclosed oil skimming solution designed for applications where vapour containment, environmental protection or equipment protection is required. The system houses the oil skimmer and decanter inside a sealed enclosure to prevent vapours, fumes or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from escaping into the surrounding environment.

Technical overview

The ESS® system integrates a tube oil skimmer and oil-water decanter inside a sealed housing. The enclosure protects the equipment from weather, contamination and tampering while also containing vapours generated during the oil recovery process. The system is commonly installed on tanks, pits or manways where oil removal must occur in enclosed environments.

Operating principle

Inside the enclosure a tube oil skimmer continuously removes floating oil from the liquid surface. The recovered oil enters an internal decanter where residual water separates from the oil before the recovered oil is discharged to a collection system. The sealed enclosure prevents vapours or fumes from escaping while still allowing inspection and maintenance access.

Material options

Typical enclosure materials include:
  • Carbon steel enclosure
  • Stainless steel enclosure
  • Aluminium enclosure
  • Fiberglass enclosure
Optional materials may be selected based on chemical compatibility and environmental exposure.

Available micron ratings

The ESS® system does not rely on filtration micron ratings. Oil separation occurs through tube oil skimming and gravity separation within the decanter.

Design and construction

Typical system features include:
  • Fully enclosed and gasketed housing
  • Vapour containment for VOC control
  • Integrated oil skimmer and decanter
  • Lockable access panel for maintenance
  • Optional viewing window for inspection
  • Custom enclosure height and mounting flange
The enclosure protects the skimming equipment from harsh environments while maintaining safe containment of vapours.

Typical applications

ESS® systems are commonly used in:
  • Chemical processing facilities
  • Industrial wastewater treatment systems
  • Oil storage tank farms
  • Refineries and petrochemical plants
  • Hazardous or VOC generating environments

Key benefits

  • Fully enclosed oil skimming system
  • Contains VOC vapours and odours
  • Protects equipment from weather and contamination
  • Secure enclosure prevents tampering
  • Suitable for hazardous environments
  • Customizable installation height

Configuration and quotation

To configure the correct ESS® system the following information should be provided:
  • Tank or basin dimensions
  • Type of oil or contaminant
  • Operating temperature
  • Required oil recovery rate
  • Explosion proof requirements
  • Installation location and mounting method

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
