Product description
High dirt load high flow filter cartridges from the 740-series are designed for demanding liquid filtration applications where very high flow rates, long service life and reduced cartridge change-outs are critical.
The 740-series uses a radial pleat construction that packs an exceptionally large filtration surface area into a single cartridge. This design dramatically increases dirt holding capacity compared to conventional filter cartridges, allowing longer operating cycles and lower total filtration costs.
Thanks to the large diameter format and integrated sealing system, fewer cartridges are required per housing, reducing installation time, labour costs and the risk of bypass.
Filtration principle
The 740-series cartridges operate using depth filtration through radial pleated polypropylene microfiber media.
• Liquid flows from the outside to the inside of the cartridge
• Particles are retained throughout the depth of the microfiber structure
• The radial pleat design maximises usable filtration area
• Stable performance is maintained even at high flow rates
This results in:
• Very high dirt holding capacity
• Low initial pressure drop
• Long service life under heavy contaminant loading
Construction and materials
Materials of construction
• Filter media: melt-blown polypropylene microfiber
• End caps and hardware: polypropylene
• Sealing system: integrated double O-ring design
• O-ring material (standard): FDA-compliant Buna-N
• Silicone-free manufacturing
The materials provide broad chemical compatibility and are suitable for a wide range of industrial and water treatment applications.
Performance characteristics
Typical performance benefits include:
• Extremely high dirt holding capacity
• Fewer cartridges required per system
• Reduced change-out frequency
• Lower disposal volumes compared to standard cartridges
• Consistent filtration efficiency at high flow rates
The cartridges are designed to operate efficiently at recommended flows around 40 gpm (9 m³/h), with higher maximum flow rates possible depending on micron rating.
Available micron ratings (99% efficiency)
The 740-series is available in the following micron ratings:
• 1 micron
• 2 micron
• 5 micron
• 10 micron
• 15 micron
• 25 micron
• 40 micron
• 70 micron
Each micron grade is optimised for high dirt loading and long operating life.
Dimensions and configurations
Standard configuration
• Length: approximately 40" (1000 mm)
• Outer diameter: large-diameter high flow format
• Core type: integrated rigid core
• Seal type: double O-ring
O-ring options
• FDA-compliant Buna-N (standard)
• Other materials available on request
Operating limits
Typical operating limits include:
• Maximum operating temperature: 70 °C
• Maximum differential pressure:
– up to 2.4 bar for fine micron grades
– up to 3.4 bar for coarser micron grades
• Maximum flow rates depend on micron rating and application
Exact limits depend on fluid, temperature and system design.
Typical applications
740-series high dirt load high flow cartridges are commonly used as prefilters or final filters in:
• Reverse osmosis and UF membrane protection
• Desalination systems
• Groundwater treatment
• Process water filtration
• Cooling water
• Wastewater treatment
• Chemical processing
• Oil, glycol and solvent filtration
• Resin protection systems
They are ideal where high throughput and long cartridge life are required.
Key benefits
• High flow capability in a single cartridge
• Exceptional dirt holding capacity
• Radial pleat design for extended service life
• Reduced housing size and cartridge count
• Integrated double O-ring sealing reduces bypass risk
• Lower operating and disposal costs
• Broad chemical compatibility
Installation considerations
For optimal performance:
• Install in housings designed for high flow cartridges
• Select the correct micron rating based on contaminant load
• Choose compatible O-ring materials for the process fluid
• Monitor differential pressure to determine change-out timing
