Product description

Deionising resin cartridge for ultra-high purity water polishing

The Deionising Resin Filter Cartridge is designed to polish pre-treated water to ultra-high purity levels by removing remaining dissolved ions. These cartridges are typically installed after reverse osmosis systems to achieve very low conductivity water for demanding technical and laboratory applications.

By using mixed bed ion exchange resins, the cartridge produces consistently high water purity and is suitable for applications where precise water quality is essential.

Filtration principle

The deionising resin cartridge operates using mixed bed ion exchange technology. As water passes through the cartridge, positively charged ions are exchanged for hydrogen ions and negatively charged ions are exchanged for hydroxide ions. These then combine to form pure water.

This process provides:

  • effective removal of remaining dissolved salts

  • ultra-low conductivity water

  • consistent polishing of pre-treated water

  • stable performance for high purity applications

The cartridge continues to operate until the resin exchange capacity is exhausted.

Filter media

The cartridge is filled with a nuclear-grade mixed bed resin consisting of:

  • 50 percent strong acid cation resin in hydrogen form

  • 50 percent strong base anion resin in hydroxide form

This balanced resin composition allows efficient removal of both cations and anions, resulting in very high water purity.

Performance characteristics

Typical performance characteristics include:

  • production of water with conductivity down to approximately 0.055 µS/cm under suitable conditions

  • ability to achieve water resistivity up to 18.3 MΩ

  • stable performance when used as a polishing stage after reverse osmosis

Actual treated water volume depends on inlet water quality and cartridge size.

Operating conditions

Typical operating parameters include:

  • operating temperature range from 4 to 45 °C

  • maximum operating pressure of 5.5 bar

  • maximum pressure differential of 1.0 bar at 21 °C

  • suitable for cold water applications

The cartridge is intended for use with low TDS feed water, typically after reverse osmosis.

Cartridge configurations

Deionising resin cartridges are available in the following configurations:

  • cartridge lengths: 5 inch, 10 inch and 20 inch

  • diameter options: standard diameter and large diameter (Big Blue)

Large diameter cartridges provide increased resin volume and extended service life.

Typical applications

Deionising resin cartridges are commonly used in:

  • laboratory water systems

  • pharmaceutical water preparation

  • autoclave feed water

  • batch ultra-pure water processes

  • final polishing after reverse osmosis

  • technical and analytical applications

They are ideal where very low conductivity water is required.

Key benefits

  • Produces ultra-high purity water

  • Effective polishing after reverse osmosis

  • Nuclear-grade mixed bed resin

  • Compact cartridge format

  • Available in multiple lengths and diameters

  • Simple cartridge replacement

  • No chemical dosing required

Installation considerations

For optimal performance, deionising resin cartridges should be installed:

  • after sediment, carbon and reverse osmosis treatment

  • in a housing compatible with the selected cartridge diameter

  • at controlled flow rates to ensure sufficient contact time

Pretreatment is essential to maximise resin life and performance.

Configuration and quotation

Deionising resin cartridges are supplied based on cartridge length and diameter. Selection depends on:

  • inlet water conductivity

  • required water purity

  • desired treated water volume

  • system flow rate

Filtra International provides technical support to ensure correct cartridge selection and system configuration.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
