Product description

Self-cleaning wedge wire filters are designed for continuous removal of suspended solids from industrial liquids without the use of disposable filter elements. These filters provide reliable filtration in applications where uninterrupted operation and minimal maintenance are required. The FSC-50 self-cleaning filter is a compact filtration unit suitable for industrial liquid filtration systems such as coatings, solvents, oils, emulsions, adhesives and other process liquids.

Technical overview

The FSC-50 is a motor-driven self-cleaning filter equipped with a wedge wire filter element and an internal scraper cleaning mechanism. The filtration process occurs from the outside to the inside of the filter element, allowing particles to be retained on the external filter surface. When contaminants accumulate on the filter surface, the rotating scraper mechanism removes deposited particles and transports them to the sediment chamber for discharge.

Operating principle

Liquid enters the filter housing and flows across the external surface of the wedge wire filter element. Suspended solids larger than the selected filtration gap are retained on the filter surface. As contamination builds up, the internal scraper basket rotates and mechanically removes particles from the filter surface. The separated solids settle in the sediment chamber at the base of the filter and can be discharged through the drain connection while filtration continues. This design allows continuous filtration without stopping the process for filter replacement.

Material options

Typical materials of construction include:
  • Stainless steel filter housing
  • Stainless steel wedge wire filter element
  • Stainless steel scraper basket
  • Industrial electric geared motor
  • Optional sealing materials depending on process fluid
These materials provide mechanical strength and chemical compatibility for demanding industrial applications.

Available micron ratings

Wedge wire filtration gaps are available in a wide range of sizes depending on the application. Typical filtration ratings include:
  • 25 µm
  • 50 µm
  • 100 µm
  • 250 µm
  • 500 µm
  • 1000 µm
  • Up to 3000 µm
The selected filtration gap determines the particle size retained by the filter.

Design and construction

Typical system characteristics include:
  • Self-cleaning wedge wire filter element
  • Motor-driven scraper cleaning mechanism
  • External-to-internal filtration direction
  • Continuous filtration during cleaning cycle
  • Integrated sediment chamber for particle collection
  • Compact inline filter housing design
Typical operating parameters include:
  • Maximum flow rate: approx. 3.5 m³/h
  • Operating pressure range: 0 – 16 bar
  • Operating temperature: +10 °C to +80 °C
  • Filter internal volume: approx. 1.5 litres

Typical applications

Self-cleaning wedge wire filters are used in many industrial liquid filtration systems including:
  • Paint and coatings filtration
  • Solvent and chemical processing
  • Adhesive and resin production
  • Industrial oil filtration
  • Process liquid recirculation systems
  • Protection of pumps, valves and instrumentation

Key benefits

  • Continuous filtration without disposable filter elements
  • Automatic scraper cleaning mechanism
  • Reduced maintenance requirements
  • Minimal product loss during cleaning
  • Robust stainless steel construction
  • Wide range of filtration gap sizes
  • Suitable for demanding industrial liquid processes

Configuration and quotation

To specify the appropriate self-cleaning filter configuration, the following parameters should be defined:
  • Liquid type and viscosity
  • Particle size distribution
  • Required filtration gap
  • Flow rate and system pressure
  • Operating temperature
  • Connection size and installation orientation
These parameters determine the correct filter size, screen configuration and cleaning cycle settings.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
