Product description

Nominal rated polypropylene melt blown depth filter cartridge for general liquid filtration

The polypropylene melt blown depth filter cartridge – nominal is designed to provide economical and reliable depth filtration for a wide range of industrial and process applications. Manufactured from 100% polypropylene using advanced melt blown technology, this cartridge delivers consistent nominal filtration efficiency combined with long service life and excellent chemical resistance.

The graded, multi-layer fibre structure ensures efficient contaminant retention throughout the full depth of the media while maintaining a low pressure drop, making this cartridge suitable for continuous filtration duties.

Filtration principle

The cartridge is manufactured using a controlled melt blown process that creates a graded depth filtration structure.

  • Process liquid flows from the outside to the inside of the cartridge

  • Larger particles are captured in the outer layers

  • Finer particles are progressively retained within the inner matrix

  • Contaminants are distributed throughout the full depth of the media

This filtration principle provides:

  • nominal filtration efficiency of approximately 85%

  • high dirt holding capacity

  • low initial pressure drop

  • stable filtration performance over service life

Nominal filtration performance

These cartridges are designed to provide reliable nominal filtration performance for applications where absolute filtration is not required.

Key performance characteristics include:

  • nominal efficiency of approximately 85% (Beta 5)

  • consistent particle reduction

  • predictable pressure drop behaviour

  • extended cartridge service life

This makes the cartridge suitable for pre-filtration and general process filtration applications.

Design and construction

The cartridge features a coreless, continuously formed melt blown construction using thermally bonded polypropylene fibres.

Typical design features include:

  • graded, multi-layer melt blown polypropylene depth media

  • progressively varying pore structure

  • binder-free construction without resins or lubricants

  • high filtration surface area

  • rigid structure for mechanical stability

The design maximises contaminant loading while maintaining flow performance.

Materials of construction

  • Filter media: Polypropylene

  • Core: Coreless polypropylene construction

  • End caps: Polypropylene

  • Sealing options:

    • EPDM

    • Silicone

    • Viton®

    • Nitrile

    • FEP encapsulated

All materials are food-grade suitable, BPA-free and selected for chemical and biological resistance.

Operating conditions

Typical operating conditions include:

  • nominal micron ratings from fine to coarse filtration ranges

  • continuous operating temperature up to 80°C

  • short-term exposure up to 120°C

  • recommended change-out differential pressure of 2.5 bar

Exact operating limits depend on cartridge length, micron rating and process conditions.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
