Product description

Nylon 6.6 membrane filter cartridge for critical liquid filtration and microbial control

The nylon 6.6 membrane filter cartridge is designed for critical filtration applications where high filtration efficiency, chemical compatibility and validated microbial control are required. Manufactured using a naturally hydrophilic nylon 6.6 membrane, this cartridge provides consistent and reliable membrane filtration across a wide range of process liquids.

The cartridge range is available in two distinct constructions:

  • Standard version: single membrane layer

  • High capacity version: dual membrane layer with integrated pre-filtration

Both versions are suitable for demanding industrial and process environments where consistent particle and microbial removal is essential.

Filtration principle

The cartridge uses a membrane filtration principle based on a controlled pore structure with a narrow pore size distribution.

  • Process liquid flows from the outside to the inside of the cartridge

  • Particles larger than the membrane pore size are retained on the membrane surface

  • The hydrophilic membrane ensures rapid wetting and stable flow performance

  • Consistent pore structure delivers predictable filtration efficiency

This filtration principle provides:

  • absolute rated particle and microbial retention

  • high flux rates with low differential pressure

  • repeatable and validated filtration performance

Standard version – single layer membrane

The standard version features a single layer nylon 6.6 membrane designed for precise and consistent filtration.

Key characteristics include:

  • single membrane layer construction

  • absolute rated micron performance

  • low extractables and low TOC contribution

  • excellent chemical compatibility

  • suitable for integrity testing

This version is ideal for applications requiring reliable membrane filtration without additional pre-filtration.

High capacity version – dual layer membrane

The high capacity version incorporates a dual nylon 6.6 membrane structure with an integrated pre-filtration layer.

Key characteristics include:

  • dual membrane layers with mirrored pore structure

  • built-in pre-filtration for extended service life

  • higher throughput compared to single layer membranes

  • improved dirt holding capacity

  • reduced frequency of cartridge change-out

This version is particularly suited for higher contaminant loads and demanding process conditions.

Design and construction

The cartridge is constructed using high integrity manufacturing techniques with all structural components designed to support membrane performance.

Typical design features include:

  • hydrophilic nylon 6.6 membrane media

  • polypropylene membrane supports and drainage layers

  • rigid polypropylene inner core

  • polypropylene outer support cage

  • thermally welded construction without adhesives or binders

Each cartridge is individually integrity tested to ensure filtration performance.

Materials of construction

  • Filter membrane: Nylon 6.6

  • Membrane support layers: Polypropylene

  • Drainage layers: Polypropylene

  • Inner core: Polypropylene

  • Outer support: Polypropylene

  • End fittings: Polypropylene

  • Support ring: Stainless steel

  • Sealing options:

    • EPDM

    • Silicone

    • Viton®

    • Nitrile

    • FEP encapsulated

Operating conditions

Typical operating conditions include:

  • absolute micron ratings down to fine filtration levels

  • continuous operating temperature up to 60°C

  • high allowable differential pressure depending on temperature

  • suitability for forward and limited reverse flow operation

Exact operating limits depend on membrane configuration, cartridge length and process conditions.

Sterilisation and integrity testing

These cartridges are suitable for steam sterilisation and integrity testing.

  • in situ steam sterilisation at 121°C

  • multiple sterilisation cycles supported

  • integrity testing methods include bubble point, diffusive flow and pressure hold tests

This supports use in validated and critical filtration processes.

  • High chemical compatibility

  • Low extractables and low TOC

  • Integrity testable design

  • Available in single and dual layer configurations

  • Suitable for sterile and critical applications

Typical applications

These cartridges are commonly used in:

  • biopharmaceutical processing

  • fermentation and API production

  • fine chemicals and solvents

  • electronics and semiconductor manufacturing

  • beverage processing

  • pure and ultrapure water systems

Configuration options

Available configuration options include:

  • single layer or dual layer membrane construction

  • multiple absolute micron ratings

  • standard cartridge lengths

  • double open end and single open end configurations

This allows precise matching to housing design and process requirements.

Compliance and quality

Nylon 6.6 membrane filter cartridges are manufactured in controlled environments with full traceability. Each cartridge is integrity tested prior to release to ensure consistent filtration performance and reliability.

Technical support and validation

Selecting the correct filtration solution often requires verification under real process conditions. Filtra International supports this process through several practical testing and validation options.

Filter samples – available for compatibility and performance checks in existing filter housings.
Full-scale filter housing rental – for temporary installations or process evaluation.
Laboratory and pilot-scale filtration units – enabling controlled testing before full implementation.
Application testing by our team – customers may send product samples for filtration trials and performance evaluation.

These options allow process validation before committing to a permanent installation.
